Wild Definition:
Reading a script aloud at a natural pace. Professional voice over artists can record an average of 2,000 words plus per hour but this can vary according to content. If content is considerably more ‘technical’ a voice over artist will record maybe half this amount within the same time frame.
Time-Sync:
Reading within a prescribed set out ‘time code’ duration for each part of a script. This can take the voice over artist twice as long as a wild recording. A voice over may have to repeat themselves several times in order to get the pacing right. A professional voice over will be able to record about ten minutes of time sync per hour and sometimes a little more, but this can be reduced if there are foreign languages involved and technical scripts. One language will be spoken faster than English and scripts are often adapted for this very reason.
Lip-Sync/ ADR:
Reading exactly to the lip movements of an actress/ actor on screen. Lip-sync projects are not as common and predominantly used in feature films and animations with higher budgets. Lip Sync take over 4 times plus more studio time than a wild recording.
Therefore, with the above taken into consideration we have to quote for time-sync and Lip Sync projects once we have seen the script and its content involved.
